Features and functionality
RE designates the HAL model with seat shell made of recycled plastic. The use of such material; obtained from household waste; compared to conventional plastic it allows for the generation of fewer emissions harmful to the climate; with a reduction in energy consumption. Given the composition of the recycled material; the different colors are dotted with tiny specks of pigment; which give a natural appearance to the shells as well as an inviting charm and warmth; especially in combination with the typical wooden legs of the HAL RE Wood version.
Materials and construction
Shell: recycled solution-dyed polypropylene; with optional seat cushion (screwed to the body). Base: non-stackable wooden base in dark or natural oak. Connection element between body and base in die-cast aluminium; powder coated in dim grey

Agency
Vitra is a family-run design company headquartered in Birsfelden; in Switzerland. Founded by Willi Fehlbaum in 1953 after a trip to the United States; discovering the chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames. The management responsibilities were subsequently entrusted to the founder's children who; following a fire that destroyed production; took advantage of the opportunity to develop a new plan for the Vitra Factory Campus. In 2012 the Fehlbaum brothers in turn transferred the management of the company to the third generation of the family; represented by Nora Fehlbaum. Vitra makes a major contribution to sustainability by avoiding following short-term trends and forgoing non-essential details. For this reason the company sets out together with its collaborators in search of optimal solutions; placing attention on the durability and longevity of the products.
