Vitra is a family-run design company headquartered in Birsfelden, Switzerland. Founded by Willi Fehlbaum in 1953 after a trip to the United States, to discover the chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames. Management responsibilities were subsequently entrusted to the founder's children who, following a fire that destroyed production, took advantage of the opportunity to develop a new plan for the Vitra Factory Campus. In 2012, the Fehlbaum brothers in turn transferred the management of the company to the third generation of the family, represented by Nora Fehlbaum. Vitra makes a major contribution to sustainability by avoiding following short-term trends and forgoing non-essential details. For this reason, the company sets out together with its collaborators in search of optimal solutions, placing attention on the durability and longevity of the products.

Optional cushion set for 3-Seater: 2 armrest cushions (600 x 400 mm) and 2 back cushions (710 x 220 mm).

Materials and construction


Frame: tubular steel with chrome or powder coated (smooth) finish.


Legs: chromed or powder coated steel (smooth finish). Skates with felt inserts. Gifted; optionally; of wheels with brake; black plastic; soft version to protect hard floors.


Padding: Alcove sofas are available with two different padding versions: the soft 'Lounge' padding for relaxation and the more rigid 'Work' padding for work environments.
