Vitra is a family-run design company headquartered in Birsfelden, Switzerland. Founded by Willi Fehlbaum in 1953 after a trip to the United States, to discover the chairs designed by Charles and Ray Eames. Management responsibilities were subsequently entrusted to the founder's sons who, following a fire that destroyed production, took advantage of the opportunity to develop a new plan for the Vitra Factory Campus. In 2012, the Fehlbaum brothers in turn transferred the management of the company to the third generation of the family, represented by Nora Fehlbaum. Vitra makes a major contribution to sustainability by avoiding following short-term trends and forgoing non-essential details. For this reason, the company sets out together with its collaborators in search of optimal solutions, placing attention on the durability and longevity of the products.

Materials and construction


Body: side and rear panels with bio fiber panel core; connection panel with biological fiber panel core and metal structure; connected with zips. Quilted covering with polyester fiber padding.


Seat and back cushions: polyurethane foam and polyester fibre.


Seat height: 480 mm (385 mm with applied load; measured in accordance with EN 1335-1:2000).


Coverings: removable.

Additional table: thickness 25 mm; three-layer high-density fine particle board with melamine coating and 3mm ABS edge{ or MDF board; powder coated (textured finish){ or; Still; oak veneer (from Europe) with a straight veneer edge of 2;5-3;0 mm. Legs in chromed or powder coated (smooth) tubular steel. Additional reinforcement in the connection panel; which ensures the solid attachment of the table top to the body.

Legs: chromed or powder coated steel tubing (smooth finish). Skates with felt inserts. Gifted; optionally; of wheels with brake; black plastic; soft version to protect hard floors (only for units without additional table).
